Blue Chip Express Repairs is the largest board & sail repair workshop facility in the UK.  We repair all makes of boards and sails here on the premises to insurance standards. Most of our repairs are completely invisible. All of our repair work carries a Blue Chip Guarantee..

Brian Johncey's Blue Chip Sailboards trading as Blue Chip Repairs, is an entirely separate business from the retail store, offering repairs to the water sports enthusiast.

Brian Johncey operates his sole trader repair business from a workshop which is conveniently located in a separate building to the rear of the Blue Chip Board Store. The repair workshop can be accessed from Abbots Road or through the rear door of the Board Store.

NOTE:
Regrettably, due to temporary space constraints we not accepting
windsurfing board or hard-shell SUP board in for repairs. 
Unfortunately, we don't know of any other board repairs that we could
recommend who can repair boards up to our Blue Chip standard.

 We can usually extract broken foot strap screws leaving the plastic female thread intact so the hole can be re-used.

  • Our professional advice must follow the manufactures instructions which are usually similar the the following; "make sure the air vent screw is done up whist the board in on the water to prevent water ingress. When the board is off the water the air vet screw should be left undone a couple of turns."
  • The air vent screw and “O” ring only work by creating seal between the shoulder of the screw head and the shoulder of the vent thread within the board. Therefore from new, we recommend coat the air vent screw and “O” ring with silicon grease and only tighten the screw to give a “pinch” effect on the “O” ring. Over tightening the screw will not create an efficient seal; “au contraire”, over tightening will crush and deform the “O” ring resulting in a very high risk of the board thread stripping and water ingress.
  • A common reason for a board to gain weight is if you have over tightened the pressure release screw and damaged the important sealing system.
  • We can fix your vent thread If you have or suspect you have stripped the air vent thread within the board, we can re-thread the board vent while you wait and give you a life time warranty on the job.

 		Before sending your board to us, click on the PDF image to download and complete our damage location report form. By completing the Blue Chip damage location report form we can see the exact area of damage needing attention and thereby reduce and confusion on what damage you wish us to rectify.
NOTE: Board damage at sea; A small amount of effort can save time and money
Before any repair work can take place, the damaged area will need the be flushed out with fresh water, otherwise the board will never dry out completely, Sea water is hydroscopic, therefore, if you haven’t cleaned the board in fresh water, you may think it is dry but then the residue salt crystals within the damaged area will absorb moisture from the atmosphere and the damaged area will once again becomes wet and the repair may not take.

We repair all types of construction including Glass, Kevlar Laminates, Carbon Laminates, Carbon Sandwich, Wood Laminates, Honeycomb, vacuumed form and Plastic Thermo Welding.
As a rough price guide To repair a simple crack on a standard construction white board would cost about £50 and take about a week, subject to sight. (an express service is usually available on request)
Workshop Location
Express Board Repairs The Blue Chip Express Repair Service means just that. Once we have the board we can complete the repair within 48 hours depending on the work involved.
If you require the Express repair service you must specify this at the outset as we will need to build this into our schedule and cost appraisal.
Board Restorations:
The Blue Chip Express Repair Service means just that. Once we have the board we can complete the repair within 48 hours depending on the work involved.		 Restoration work is labour intensive and time consuming, which ends up as a very expensive exercise. All too often, the cost of restoration work will far exceed the value of the board. Board restoration is best undertaken as a DIY project where your labour is given freely. Click here for a full list of DIY restoration products.

Blue Chip Express Repairs does not undertake board restoration, we specialise in urgent and high specification repair work on boards, surfboards and sails.
 
Board and sail storage charges for repaired equipment left beyond the QRCD (quoted repair completion date)

Due to the amount of work we are now asked to undertake by private customers, insurance companies and trade work for other shops, together with a lack of storage space within our workshop, we cannot accommodate storage of finished boards and sails in our workshops for more than 10 days after the QRCD. However we now operate a secure post storage service.
