Charlotte Bree Johncey
Brian's Daughter
Born 2nd February 1979 - : - Died 18th April 1998 Aged 19

Charlotte and two of her best friends were on their way home from a late night party in the early hours of Saturday morning. Charlotte was in the back of a car without a seat belt on. The car clipped the kerb while taking a corner and left the road tumbling out of control. Charlottes friends survived the crash with minor injuries but Charlotte's life was over.

When something as tragic and senseless as Charlotte's death happens, we always ask ourselves why? Unfortunately there never seems to be a logical answer that we can take comfort in. I cannot begin to explain the enormous feeling of emptiness her death has left me with.

An Oak tree has been planted in Richmond Park in Charlotte's memory.
The tree is overlooking the open grazing fields for the park deer.

What is Death?

Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other, that we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without affect, without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolutely unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near,
just around the corner. All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!
