Aquaglide 11' 3 Aquaglide has teamed up with John Amundson to
bring his custom shapes into production for all to enjoy. John has been
living on the North Shore of Oahu for 20 years, shaping and building
surfboards, kite boards and paddle boards. He is on the water daily, and
gathers input from a wide range of enthusiasts to come up with designs that
are easy to ride, but also favoured by the top paddlers on the island. Aquaglide models feature a mast track to attach a windsurf rig, and a
full-length EVA deck pad that guarantees great traction and comfort with no
waxing required. Aquaglide boards also feature Paddleguard, a high-density
strip of EVA foam laminated along the rail to reduce wear and tear to both
the board and the paddle. The Aquaglude 11'3" Duratec
stand up board features a versatile shape that is suitable for the first
time paddler, as well as for more experienced riders who want a board for
flat water or surf. John was able to achieve this flexibility
when he discovered that a board's stability comes primarily from length and
width,
not thickness or volume, so he made this board 29 1/2" wide so that
anyone
can
start out on it in flat water. For surf conditions, he thinned out the rails
on
the 11'3" and gave it a modified longboard
rocker, so it reacts quickly and holds a rail. Finally, the Duratec
construction results in a tough and durable board that is still relatively
light. . If the wind gets up and you fancy a bit of windsurfing then the
Aquaglide also comes complete with a mast rail.
On
the Water
In small on-shore wind chop, the Aquaglide Amundson
11′3″ is a very stable stand up paddle board. It is easy to paddle into the wind thanks to its fairly
straight centre rockerline. The Aquaglide pivot turns with little
effort, riding wind chop is incredibly fun because the Amundson has so much
planing surface, and with the straight, efficient rockerline it gets gliding
quickly and maintains speed well.
In small surf, the Amundson takes off on a wave immediately. With its
straight rockerline you definitely need to step back a couple steps to keep
the nose
from pearling, especially on days with bigger surf.
The board rides very fast and stable on the wave, and you can milk even the
smallest waves all the way into the beach. It is so stable while surfing
waves that it is perfect for walking around while riding, and even going
for headstands! With its ASA bottom, full-wrap EVA deck and paddle guard,
this
board is completely bomb proof.
Windsurfing on the Amundson 11′3″ is also a blast. It feels very stable, yet
turns incredibly well on swell. It pinches upwind with ease, especially if
you put one foot up in front of the mast track. Trimmed like this the board
is quite slow, but you can go almost directly into the wind! Riding downwind
is also effortless and fun.
For an all-around board, the Aquaglide 11′3″ Stand Up is an awesome choice
for riders of all levels up to 90kg, and for heavier riders who have a bit
more experience.
This board comes with our standard paddle inclusive in our Chill-Out price.
